Claire learned traditional Zulu dancing and started performing in front of crowds at the age of ten.
During this time, she performed for South African singer, Johnny Clegg at his traditional Zulu wedding and made guest appearances at travelling road-shows and events across the country. In addition to being trained informally in South African traditional dance forms, Claire also enjoyed some early formal ballet training.
Claire’s lifelong passion for dance was stoked when she was introduced to the fire arts in 2007. She started by training in fire poi, but soon after became enchanted by fire fans, specifically tech fans, which have since become her favourite performance medium. She also eats fire and delights in walking and dancing on stilts. Her calm dynamism and vital beauty infuses every performance.
Claire designs and makes costumes and accessories for The Psychedelic Theatre. She also crafts leather masks and fashions tiny leather Steampunk top hats which she calls “Titfertats”.
